When Reading and Play Come Together

Fundraising and reading may seem like two separate ideas, but in a preschool community they come together in a meaningful way. At our preschool, events like our Read-a-thon allow us to celebrate the joy of books while also inviting our community to invest in the experiences that help our students learn and grow.
Building a Love of Reading Early
Early childhood is one of the most important times to nurture a love of reading. When young children listen to stories, explore picture books, and talk about characters, they are developing the foundation for language, comprehension, and communication. Reading in preschool supports vocabulary growth, imagination, and early literacy skills that will follow children throughout their school years.
Additionally, reading together creates positive emotional connections. Storytime encourages children to sit together, listen, laugh, and share ideas. These shared experiences build confidence and curiosity, helping children see books as something joyful rather than something they have to do. When parents and family members read to their children, it also strengthens their bonds and creates new memories. Reading, even five minutes before bedtime, or listening to an audiobook together in the car, are fun ways to have quality time with your child.
The Role of Fundraising in Enriching Learning
Fundraising helps our preschool continue to provide the materials and experiences that make learning meaningful. Contributions from our community allow us to expand our playgrounds and outside toys that support our play-based curriculum. In the past, the money raised was used to buy our plane teeter-totter, climbing dome, turf and a track for Tiny Town, and to replace broken or older toys.
Fundraising helps ensure that our classrooms remain rich, engaging environments where children can learn through play, creativity, and discovery.
A Community Effort
One of the most special aspects of preschool fundraising is the sense of community it creates. When families, relatives, and friends support events like a Read-a-thon, they are not only helping the school, they are encouraging children to feel proud of their learning and excited about reading.
These events also provide opportunities for families to participate in their child’s educational journey. Reading together at home, sharing favorite books, and celebrating reading milestones all strengthen the connection between school and family life. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in the past! We could not do it without the generosity of our community.
Supporting a Lifelong Love of Learning
By combining reading and fundraising, we are doing more than raising money—we are building a culture that values curiosity, learning, and community support. Each book read and each contribution made helps us continue to create a nurturing environment where children can develop confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.
At the heart of it all is something simple but powerful: the joy of opening a book and discovering a story together. 📚
