Summer Fun & The Seashore

Summer is such a great time of year!  This summer has warmed up to be a beautiful season.  The Preschool children will be learning about Summer Fun and the Seashore.  This can include lots of seashore activities, water fun, camping cookouts, sand art and picnics.  We will also continue our summer gardening activities during morning recess and afternoons. Our staff is very thankful for all your support and the encouragement you as parents share with us, and the children!

BIBLE
Our character trait study is Faith—believing God will do what He says. The verse is printed in the newsletter so you may go over it with your child at home.

LANGUAGE & PHONICS
Poetry, rhymes, and finger plays will enhance each child’s language involvement, as will songs and alphabet recitation.  The 4’s & 5’s will continue alphabet awareness and review with games and alphabet manipulatives.  The 3’s will encourage name recognition games as the 4’s & 5’s continue sequencing and writing of their names.

ART & COLORS
Activities will include wet chalk drawings, crayon wash pictures, glue painting with sand sprinkling, water painting on cement, sand play and formation of shapes in wet sand, fish projects, pine needle painting, collages from nature and various animal art activities. Self-expression and variety in media for all children will be encouraged.

MATH
The Toddlers and the 2’s will be sorting/classifying objects and rote counting.  The 3’s will continue rote counting 1-10 and using lots of manipulative materials to stress values 1-5.  The 4’s & 5’s will continue rote counting 1-20 and will be experiencing the values and order of 1-10 in various projects.  All of the classes will implement as much shape review as possible.

MUSIC
New songs will be shared and each class will participate in activities with records and rhythm instruments to enhance auditory skills and body awareness.

LARGE MOTOR DEVELOPMENT
Activities will include dances, beams, hopping, eye-foot coordination and spatial awareness.  Possibly some sprinkler days will allow a few “wet” action games.

FINE MOTOR DEVELOPMENT
The Toddlers will be stacking, nesting, and stringing.  The 2’s will be doing a variety of activities like sand tracing and zippers, and 3’s will add snaps, lacing, and tracing.  The 4’s & 5’s will be sewing, lacing and doing lots of sorting projects.  Scissors will be used with Playdoh, foam trays and paper shapes.

VISUAL PERCEPTUAL SKILLS
Practice of several listening games, clap patterning and rhyme recall activities in all classes.

Summer & Places Far Away or Of Long Ago

Our Summer is off to a great start! It is wonderful to meet so many new friends and to enjoy our continuing school family relationships! Summer is such a great time of year! The Preschool children will be learning a few concepts this month: Summer – weather, plants, animals; Places Far Away or Of Long Ago –—we will have fun pretending to visit some great vacation spots.

BIBLE: Our character trait studies this month will include: Responsibility-knowing and doing what God and others expect of me, and Self-Control-choosing my choices well without reminder. Please be sure to review the memory verses with your child at home. Remember, your encouragement at home can really make a difference as your child begins to understand these important life concepts. The Bible curriculum for July will also include stories involving Bible Heroes—men and women of faith.

CELEBRATE COLORS

Our theme this month is Celebrate Colors. We will be using primary colors with a variety of art media, and even using science experiences to discover how secondary colors are created. We will also continue to teach through the concepts in our garden. Although planted in April, we are just now able to enjoy the flowering process that yields fruit and vegetables. The children are really enjoying the daily care and changes as the various plants grow. We are hoping to be able to make some salads and soups with the harvest in late summer.

BIBLE This month we will study the Bible character trait, Initiative. Seeing a job that needs to be done, and doing it without being asked. The memory verse is shown on our website, on the Preschool page, under Character Trait, for you to review with your child. Remember, your encouragement at home can really make a difference as your child begins to understand these important life concepts.

All classes will continue to participate in fingerplays, alphabet recitation in rhyme or song, and descriptive word responses for both objects and pictures. The 4’s and 5’s will introduce the letter Z, recognition and beginning sound, begin reviewing alphabet and phonics games.

COLORS As the Toddlers, 2’s, and 3’s continue grouping and sorting objects by color and reviewing primary colors, the 4’s and 5’s will review colors in a variety of media and art expressive activities.

MATH The Toddlers will continue to count, sort, sequence, and classify.  The 3’s will continue rote counting 1-10, values 1-5, and reviewing shapes and coin awareness. The 4’s will review rote counting 1-10, values 1-9, recognition and sequence 1-9, all shapes, and coin awareness. 5’s will be rote counting 1-10; sets 1-10, and recognition, sequence, and values 1-20. 5’s will introduce quarters, and review all other coins and all shapes.

MUSIC & ART Music with Movement will be a focus in all classes this month to gain awareness of rhythm and body coordination. All classes will continue auditory patterning and will use rhythm instruments.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT As we continue in our large motor program, this month’s activities focus on: cross-pattern movements, balance, and eye-hand / eye-foot coordination skills. All ages may experience the tumbling mats for enhancement of body imagery skills.

FINE MOTOR DEVELOPMENT Toddlers will continue to string beads and glue on a line. The 3’s will be doing snaps, buttons, laces and zippers; stringing Cheerios; tracing. The 4’s and 5’s will be sorting coins and buttons, begin lacing and tying, doing weaving, using eye droppers, doing lots of finger tracing in sand, and doing sewing cards.

VISUAL SKILLS All classes will introduce ordering – small to large. Toddlers will continue to match and explore how objects fit together and can be taken apart.  3’s will begin with 2 objects; 4’s will use 3-4 objects; 5’s 4-5 objects. All classes will continue to review body parts, and matching/sequencing. Use of geoboards and parquetry blocks will also be for all classes.
